My dear friend,
More than ever in human history, there is so much noise around us. Sometimes I feel that there is too much of everything happening. We all crave moments of peace, happiness, love and self-respect while being successful in terms of societal norms. Yet, amidst all this, we are bombarded with content that only showcases the glamorous side of life, far detached from reality. Isn’t it ironic?
The truth is, real life is quite the opposite.. The moment we are out of our own zone of being the real us, we encounter people, circumstances and incidents – which pull us all down. I am sure that we all have relatives / people around us whose presence drains some energy out of us. I am sure that we all have gone through the incidents which give the message that there is no point in being a good human. I am sure that we have circumstances wherein we feel like giving up on goodness or humanity.
Let me share the story of Anaar Ji today ( lovely amusing name 🙂 , isn’t it). And yes, he is a real character that too from a completely rural Jatland Haryana.I have never seen such a saint in my life and I call him a living Buddha. Many incidents with him taught me so much of life in moments. Anaar Ji didn’t marry and thought to give all his life to his nephews’ upbringing. And as he was growing older, he gave all his land / assets to his nephews thinking about their well being. But these guys didn’t respect or acknowledge his love. I asked Anaar Ji – don’t you feel bad about all this? And the answer was – मेरा मन तो साफ़ है ना, मेरे मन में तो चोर नहीं। अब आगे ये लोग जाने ! ( My heart and intentions are pure so I don’t worry much. Now it’s all on them – what they will do).
Though there are many angles to this story but one is – whatever the circumstances and incidents, we must do good with the right intentions. After all, as humans, our true essence lies within our hearts, isn’t it?
Life is filled with incidents that can knock us down. I, too, recently experienced such a situation when I encountered a group of young men drinking and causing a ruckus at 6 am in the morning along my running route. The events that followed were far from amusing. However, should we lose faith in humanity and stop doing good? The answer is a resounding NO. I believe that as humans, we all bear the responsibility of making the world a better place.
So this is my message to all the seekers, artists, peace lovers, dreamers, and everyone with positive intent – remember that you are needed in the world. The world needs you, the world needs all of us to stay sane and to keep humanity alive.
In my workshops, I get a question very often – how to deal with negative people/circumstances around me? My answer to this:
- First option – see if you can completely avoid these people or circumstances – that’s the first way.
- If it’s not possible to avoid, then how about limiting the time or interaction with these people. E.g instead of spending 2-3-4 hrs, how about having a minimum possible interaction.
- Next one – know and realize that you have your own zone as a human wherein you stay positive. Come to your own zone asap to heal your own self to stay sane.
- Last but not the least – stay in the community of people who uplift your spirit. If you don’t have such a community then please create. If you don’t have such people, then please find them.
So the task for this week for you – Please understand that you will always find people, circumstances and incidents pulling you down. But stay in your zone, please. You are important, you are worthy and you are so much needed in this universe. Today, commit yourself to having goodness in your life.
I wish you a life wherein you have wonderful people around you who are your best support in this journey called life. And if you don’t find anyone – then turn to your friend Jogi. I am here for you always.
Your friend for life,
Jogi
